The Employees’ Compensation Commission recently awarded P10,000.00 cash assistance each to five uniformed personnel who were wounded in action during the Marawi Siege in 2017 at the ECC Regional Extension Unit 2 office, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

Recipients of the cash assistance include Cpl. Jeffrey T. Lina, Cpl. Jerome P. Rull, SSG. Darwin Ramos and Cpl. Winston Enverga of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Maricel Eugenio, wife of Cpl. Ronald Eugenio, received the cash assistance in behalf of her husband since he is currently in an official business.

The provision of the cash assistance aims to augment the expenses incurred by the employee due to the work-related contingency and as an additional support.

Pursuant to P.D. 626, as amended and Circular No. 13-807A, uniformed personnel are covered under the Employees’ Compensation Program despite their exclusion from the coverage of RA8291 or the Government Service Insurance Act of 1997, thus, in cases where a personnel meets a work – related contingency, they are eligible to avail of ECP benefits thru the GSIS, ECC’s administering agency for the public sector.

“ECC recognizes employees’ efforts in the performance of their functions, hence, in case of work–related contingency, ECC is always ready to help the victims and their beneficiaries,” said ECC Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis.
