A well-informed Filipino is an empowered Filipino.

On February 18, 2021,  the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) through its Regional Extension Unit 1 (REU 1) conducted a free webinar for the Sangguniang Kabataan Presidents in Ilocos Sur in coordination with the Panlalawigang Pederasyon ng Sangguniang Kabataan (PPSK).

Around 30 SK Federated Presidents from different cities and municipalities, including some employees of the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur, joined the said Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP) webinar.

“Moving on to the new normal we look into the Employees’ Compensation Program and see how can this be helpful especially in times of sickness. As we continue working, we also take time to know our benefits as employees. This is important since we now give due care to our health and where to seek help in case of work-related contingencies,” Ilocos Sur SK Federation President Janina Joyce Tabios said.

ECC-REU1 Information  Officer Dexter Junio Dupagan explained that government sector employees who are registered members of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), including elective government officials who are receiving fixed monthly compensation are covered under the EC Program(ECP).

“Maganda ang programang EC program dahil embrace ang lahat ng private at public sector,” said by one of the participants during the webinar.

Dupagan emphasized that job order (JO) or contractual employees may be covered under the ECP as  self-employed at the  Social Security System (SSS). He advised those JO or contractual employees to report at the nearest SSS branch for their EC coverage registration and payment of their SSS and EC contributions.

“We believe that young people like Sangguniang Kabataan should be informed about the EC Program before they enter  the corporate world or government service for their own good and also for their relatives and constituents,” ECC Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis said.

“We encourage everyone to support ECC’s different activities and become our active partners and advocates of the EC Program by sharing the information they learned from our advocacy campaigns,” added Banawis.

ECC is a government owned and controlled corporation attached to the Department of Labor and Employment whose mandate is to provide a package of benefits for public and private sector employees and their dependents in the event of work-connected sickness, injury or death.
