Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The Employees’ Compensation Commission Regional Extension Unit 2 (ECC-REU 2) recently facilitated a Quick Response Program (QRP) to PO1 Ferdinand Asuncion, Jr. at St. Paul Hospital.

PO1 Asuncion is one of the three wounded in action police officer during a clash with the group of alleged crime syndicate leader Willy Sagasag, one of the “most wanted” in Kalinga Province.

Under the Employees’ Compensation and State Insurance Fund Law of the Presidential Decree no. 626, as amended (P.D. 626), uniformed personnel of the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology are covered under the Employees’ Compensation Program of the ECC.

Victims of work-related contingencies may be provided with disability benefits, medical benefits, care’s allowance, rehabilitation services, funeral and death benefits.

ECC-REU 2 Administrative Officer, Shanina Battung briefed the victims on the benefits provided by the EC Program and the process of filing their EC claims.

Through ECC-QRP, uniformed personnel who suffered from work-connected contingencies are provided psychosocial counseling and assistance in the filing of EC claim with the GSIS or the SSS.

ECC Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis said, “Victims will be ensured that they will be properly assisted on their EC claims. Though uniformed personnel are not members of GSIS, they can still claim EC benefits at the branch of regional offices of the GSIS.”
