LA UNION – The Employees’ Compensation Commission-Regional Extension Unit 1 (ECC-REU1) recently conducted a comprehensive training seminar titled “Entrepreneurship Training for Basic Small Business with Financial Awareness” for persons with work-related disabilities (PWRDs) in the region. The seminar was held at the ECC Training Room, Kenny Plaza Building, and its purpose was to empower PWRDs with knowledge and skills needed to start and manage small businesses while also developing financial literacy.
The seminar featured expert-led sessions covering various aspects of entrepreneurship, including business planning, starting your business enterprise (SYOBE), and operation management. Participants also gained insights into financial management, emphasizing the importance of budgeting, saving, and investing.
“The primary objective of our activity is to provide PWRDs with the necessary, fundamental knowledge to be entrepreneurs and have a deeper understanding of how to start a business,” Dr. Randy Angelo Ponciano, Regional Program Focal, said.
“One of our goals is to bring back our PWRDs into the economic mainstream and to provide them with additional financial support for themselves and their families as part of our program under the KaGabay o Katulong at Gabay sa Manggagawang may Kapansanan,” Ponciano added.
A diverse group of participants from Ilocos Norte, La Union, Pangasinan, and Baguio City attended the event, eager to learn and explore new opportunities. To ensure active participation and practical learning, the seminar included interactive workshops and hands-on activities.
Those who participated in the seminar reported overwhelming positive feedback, with many expressing their gratitude for the valuable insights gained.
“Saludong-saludo ako sa programa ng ECC. Mabuti at nalaman ko ang programang ito dahil kung wala ito muntik ko nang wakasan ang buhay ko dahil sa nangyari sa akin na naputulan ng kanang kamay dahil sa aksidente habang naka duty bilang isang bus conductor. Napakalaking tulong talaga ng EC Program sa akin,” shared Ed Macanlalay from Pangasinan.
“ECC is committed to promoting the rights and welfare of our PWRDs. With ECC’s various programs and initiatives, we strive to create an inclusive society in which PWRDs can thrive and achieve their goals,” said ECC Executive Director Kaima Via Velasquez.
