Forty-two (42) PNP personnel from twenty eight (28) stations within Cagayan Province were oriented on Employees Compensation Program last April 20, 2016 at the Cagayan Police Provincial Office Conference Room, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
The said orientation was a result of the Memorandum of Agreement on the Convergence between the ECC and the PNP forged last March 2015 which aimed to increase the awareness of the uniformed personnel regarding their coverage and benefits provided under the Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP).
The ECP is a government program designed to provide workers and/or their beneficiaries with income benefits in case of work-related sickness, injury, or death.
Uniformed personnel, such as the members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), are entitled to benefits under the ECP despite their non-coverage under the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
Under the said program, workers who figured in work-related accidents and diseases are entitled to ‘loss of income’ benefits, medical reimbursements, carer’s allowance, and rehabilitation services subject to the evaluation of ECP’s administering agencies—the Social Security System (SSS) and the GSIS.
The families may also receive funeral and death benefits in the event that the death of the worker is work-related.
“It is a must to secure the safety of our uniformed personnel first, especially since the PNP enforce the law to keep our society peaceful and orderly. However, in cases of work – connected contingencies, they are assured that there is an Employees’ Compensation Program to help them”, ECC Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis said.
