Thirteen persons with work-related disabilities (PWRDs) in Northern Mindanao (NorthMin) will soon receive their livelihood starter kits from the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) as they have undergone the entrepreneurial training organized by ECC Region 10, in partnership with the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board 10, at Pearlmont Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City on March 25, 2022.

The PWRDs, hailing from Cagayan de Oro City, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, and Misamis Occidental, have fractures or permanent disability due to work-connected sickness or injury. This qualifies them for ECC Katulong at Gabay sa Manggagawang may Kapansanan (KaGabay) Program which aims to assist the PWRDs in setting up their own self-managed microenterprises or home-based business which would integrate them back into the economic mainstream.

The training started with a Social Preparation explained by Jannah Batara, Administrative Officer of ECC Regional Extension Unit (REU) 10. This is to inform the beneficiaries why are they qualified for the said program, what is expected of them and encourage sustainability in the livelihood that will be awarded.

Evelyn Rivera and Loudette Uy of RTWPB 10 conducted the training and workshop on ISTIV Bayanihan “Productivity through improving Systems” for Micro Enterprises. ISTIV which means Industrious, Systematic, Time-Conscious, Innovative, and strong Values for work, values a successful entrepreneur should possess. The said training supports the growth of micro-enterprises by enhancing the entrepreneur’s way of managing the business.

We value our partnership with ECC as their KaGabay Program allows the PWRDs to focus on things that will give them opportunity to thrive. The ISTIV Bayanihan seminar of RTWPB 10 will undoubtedly encourage them to pursue a career in business,” said Evelyn Rivera, Labor and Employment Officer III of RTWPB 10.

ECC-KaGabay Program beneficiaries will soon receive their ₱20,000.00 livelihood starter kits from ECC. Once they sustain the livelihood after three months to one year from the date it was initially awarded to them, they will receive an additional ₱10,000.00 as their complementary kits under the ECC KaGabay Program.
