Dennis Rodriguez, a former laborer of DM Consunj, Inc. turned into a welder after undergoing free welding skills training and provided with a welding equipment package worth P20,000.00 from the Employees’ Compensation Program’s Katulong at Gabay sa Manggagawang may Kapansanan Program on June 4, 2018.

Rodriguez, 26 years old, suffered from limb amputation when an accident happened to him while performing his tasks in the workplace. The accident rendered him partially disabled.

“I am very much thankful to the assistance given by the Employees’ Compensation Commission. I am thankful for the opportunity that would enable me to continue earning despite the disability I sustained,” said Rodriguez.

Rodriguez underwent welding skills and entrepreneurial training prior to the awarding of the welding equipment to provide him with the necessary skills and knowledge on the effective management of his welding enterprise.

ECC Executive Director Stella Banawis emphasized that the Commission will continue to strengthen its commitment to bring all victims of work-related contingencies back to their economic productivity through the provision of skills and entrepreneurial training and livelihood starter kits.

Under the ECC’s KaGabay Program, employees who suffer from work-related contingencies may avail restorative devices like prosthesis, physical and occupational therapy, skills and business training, and livelihood assistance.

“The Commission will always be ready to assist workers with work-related disabilities, however, everyone needs to always observe health and safety at the workplace,” Banawis noted.
