In line with the celebration of the 41st anniversary of the Employees’ Compensation Comminssion (ECC), members of the local media in Region 11 expressed their support in promoting awareness on the Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP) by signing the Manifesto of Commitment advocating ECP’s information dissemination during the Kapehan sa SM held last 14 March 2016.

“It is our common understanding that despite the long existence of the Employees’ Compensation Commission, most workers in the region remain unaware of their entitlements and privileges under the ECP,” Joey Sem Dalumpines, Information Officer III from the Philippine Information Agency in Region 11 said.

Dalumpines added that he, himself, a victim of an accident at work, was just recently apprised of his benefits under EC Programs.

“Even we, media representatives, are unaware of our benefits under this program. Thus, it is timely that, we are given these information because we are faced with a lot of risks in our job which make us susceptible to work-related sickness, accidents, or even death,” Kane Rosa, a reporter of 105.9 Balita FM, shared.

The Manifesto of Commitment recognized the need for the EC Programs to reach the awareness of every workers in the region and that income benefits, medical, death, and rehabilitation benefits under the ECP must be availed by the workers with work-related sickness, injury, and death.

The forged partnership between the local media and ECC Regional Extension Unit in Region 11 paves the way towards the realization of our goal to make information on ECP trickle down to every worker in all localities of the region,” ECC Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis said.
