ECC, NRCO converge for hog raising livelihood training to PWRDs and OFWs in Butuan City

The Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) and the National Reintegration Center for OFW’s (NRCO) recently organized a ‘Hog Raising Livelihood Training’ in Butuan City on June 19, 2017.

In the said event, the ECC and NRCO assessed persons with work related disabilities (PWRDs) and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), respectively, in Butuan City and neighboring provinces who were interested to engage in business and evaluated their potentials and residual functional capacities.

Three PWRDs, namely: (1) Angelus M. Morales of Brgy. Babag, Butuan City, a former Seafarer of Orophil Ship Management Corp. Manila City; (2) Herson A. Nalam of Villa Kananga, Butuan City, a former seaman of the Maunlad Trans Inc. in Makati City; (3) Ricky V. Murillo, a former ‘Hornero’ of Rose Bakeshop, Butuan City, and seven OFWs, attended the Hog Raising livelihood Training Seminar on June 19, 2017 at the OWWA Training Hall, Nimfa Tiu Bldg. II, J.P Rosales Ave.

The participants listened attentively to Edgar Magaso of BMEG as he discussed the highlights of hog raising. The PWRD’s & OFW’s expressed their interest to build a hog pen and the different activities for the “biik”, palalakihing baboy, ‘dumalaga’, inahing buntis and ‘barako’ as the hog grows.

Joy P. Patican, an OFW participant, said that the training was very informative and a big help for them to be able to start their own Hog Raising Business. Accordingly, all participants thanked both the ECC and NRCO for conducting said training for free.

The PWRD’s have already submitted their respective Hog Raising Business Plan to ECC, and are just awaiting for their respective starter kits under the ECC-Katulong at Gabay sa may Kapansanan (ECC-KaGabay) Program, so they can officially start their chosen field of business endeavor.
