Davao City – Rey Antonio Magbanua 55, a former machine operator of Coca-Cola Beverages Phil. Inc. received from the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) thru its Region Extension Unit 11 (REU 11) an amount of ₱20,000.00 as an EC livelihood starter kit for his chosen business.
On January 24, 2020, Magbanua was riding on his bike from work when a taxi suddenly hit him which resulted in the fracture of his left wrist. His injuries prompted him to leave from work for a period of one month which apparently entails a loss of income.
Before this grant, Magbanua also underwent an ECC-financed physical therapy at Mindanao Orthopedic Sports and Rehabilitation Center, Inc., and entrepreneurial training spearheaded by DTI 11. In addition, he also received EC cash assistance amounting to ₱10,000.00 and a travel and meal allowance (TMA) worth ₱5,500.00 aside from the EC sickness benefits he availed through the Social Security System (SSS).
Magbanua said that the livelihood package he received from the EC Program would improve his earning capacity. “Maraming salamat po sa ECC, malaking tulong po itong ibinigay ninyong negosyo sa aking pamilya,” he added.
Every year, hundreds of persons with work-related disability (PWRDs) receive livelihood assistance under the ECC’s Katulong at Gabay sa Manggagawang may Kapansanan (KaGabay) Program to enable them to provide for the needs of their families despite their disability.
