Tacloban City – The Employees’ Compensation Commission Regional Extension Unit 8 has recently participated on the Regional Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (RTIPC) meeting at the Ace Franis Hotel in Tacloban City, as part of its continuing efforts in increasing awareness on the Employees’ Compensation Program.

Through the assistance of the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office 8, ECC Regional Officer Michelle Basal discussed the Employees’ Compensation Program to thirty one representatives coming from different employee and employer groups in Eastern Visayas.

The meeting focused on how the members of the RTIPC, being forerunners in their fields and organizations, can assist the ECC in increasing awareness of the Employees’ Compensation Program at the grassroots level through the creation of a stringent network of stakeholders.

“When work contingencies occur, the DOLE immediately coordinates with the ECC especially in assisting workers who have suffered from work-related disabilities or death,” DOLE Assistant Regional Director Roy Buenafe said. “The RTIPC, especially through its Safety and Health Committee, can play a significant role in expediting the delivery of proper assistance to victims and their beneficiaries,” ARD Buenafe added.

“The Employees’ Compensation Commission is continually working hard in expanding and increasing awareness on the Employees’ Compensation Program,” Executive Director Stella Zipagan Banawis stated. “For this reason, our Regional Extension Unit officers have actively sought partnerships with different stakeholders. It is our hope that through these partnerships and linkages, we can provide better communication facilities and resources to our clients in the hope of bringing them back to the economic mainstream,” Director Banawis added.
