The Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) through its Regional Extension Unit No. 9 recently granted prosthesis to two (2) Persons with Work-Related Disabilities (PWRDs) in Zamboanga Peninsula.
The said PWRDs are both Employees Compensation Program (ECP) beneficiaries. One of the recepients suffered from a traumatic incomplete amputation in 2016 while the other worker endured disarticulation in 2017, both due to work related accidents in their previous workplaces.
After they received their ECP benefits, they were referred to the ECC for rehabilitation and medical assistance under the Katulong at Gabay sa Manggagawang may Kapansanan (KaGabay) Program. The two PWRDs underwent free physical therapy and consultation at the Zamboanga City Medical Center and West Metro Medical Center, respectively, prior to the granting of their prosthesis.
“We hope that despite the disabilities they acquired, they will still continue to live a meaningful and productive life. The ECC will always be here for our workers who met work-connected contingencies,” said ECC Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis.
Banawis also reminded everyone that the employees’ health and safety should be everyone’s topmost priority.
