Notwithstanding the COVID-19 pandemic, the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) in Cagayan de Oro City continued its services to the public and awarded a total of ₱405,000 of cash assistance to 38 persons with work-related disabilities (PWRDs) and beneficiaries from March to August this year.

EC cash assistance worth ₱10,000 each were granted to 35 private sector employees who have work-related contingencies and uniformed personnel who were wounded-in-action (WIA) or wounded in police operations (WIPO). There were also three beneficiaries of uniformed personnel who were killed-in-action (KIA) or killed in police operations (KIPO) who received ₱15,000 each.

Dako na kaayo ni na tabang sa akoa.” (When I heard about the cash assistance from ECC, I directly went to their Cagayan de Oro office. I was so happy when I received my cash assistance. This is a big help for me), said Joel Jerez, one of the 38 beneficiaries who received cash assistance from ECC.

The cash assistance, under the Quick Response Program of ECC, is an immediate financial support to qualified person with work-related disabilities (PWRDs) or their families amounting to ₱10,000 for sickness claim and ₱15,000 for death claim.

The CDO office also received 33 QRP cash assistance applications from March to August. ECC is expecting more applications especially that workers who contracted COVID-19 at their workplace or at the performance of their job, can be compensated under the EC Program.

The ECC cash assistance is on top of the regular EC benefits such as sickness, disability or death benefits which are filed at the ECC’s administering agencies, the SSS and the GSIS.
