Vigan City – The Employees’ Compensation Commission in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment- Region I, will conduct a one-day advocacy seminar on Employees’ Compensation Program on 29 October 2014 in One Vittoria Hotel at Bantay, Ilocos Sur.

ECC is inviting about 200 HR officers, union representatives and employers from different industries, representatives of various government  agencies including uniformed personnel from Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology to attend the free admission seminar.

ECC will discuss the importance of accident prevention and safety in the workplace, compensation benefits and rehabilitation services for workers who met work-related injuries or sickness.

The advocacy seminar will be headed by the ECC OIC-Deputy Executive Director Atty. Jonathan Villasoto and will be joined by Information and Public Assistance Division Chief Ma. Cecilia Maulion, Medical Officer III Dr. Raymond Bañaga, and Information Officer IV Alicia Borres as resource speakers.

In the afternoon right after the seminar, ECC will have a consultation meeting with its administering agencies, the Social Security System and the Government Service Insurance System, to discuss effective implementation of the Employees’ Compensation Program and the issues of workers concerning the processing of EC claims.

The ECC is mandated by law to provide meaningful and appropriate compensation to workers in the event of work-related contingencies. Its main functions are to formulate policies and guidelines for the effective implementation of the ECP, to review and decide on EC claims denied by the SSS or the GSIS and to initiate policies and programs towards adequate occupational health and safety and accident prevention in the work environment.
