PALO, LEYTE–The Employees’ Compensation Commission-Regional Extension Unit No. 8 conducted an orientation on the Employees’ Compensation Program to uniformed personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) from Eastern Visayas in July 2017 at Camp Kangleon, Campetic, Palo, Leyte.

Participated in by 100 police officers coming from 60 municipal and provincial units and police stations of PRO8, the EC Program seminar discussions were focused on enhancing work accident and disease prevention, compensation, and rehabilitation.

It was highlighted in the discussion that despite their non-membership to the Government Service Insurance System, all uniformed personnel from the PNP, as well as the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, are still covered under the Employees’ Compensation Program. In the event of work-connected sickness, injury or death, uniformed personnel may file benefits claim under the EC Program at any GSIS Branch nearest their residence or place of work.

“We are happy that the ECC has taken the initiative to inform us of our benefits under the EC Program. We are glad to note that the Government has this kind of safety net for us workers and employees. Now, we are assured that our fallen and injured comrades will be taken care of in the event of work-connected sickness, injury or death”, PO3 Baldesco of the Discipline, Law, and Order Section of the PNP RO8 said.

The conduct of these seminars is part of the continuing efforts of the ECC in harnessing and expanding understanding on the EC Program. Through the establishment of its Regional Extension Units in different regions all over the Philippines, the ECC is continually increasing awareness on the EC Program and foster linkages and connections with various stakeholders.
