LEGAZPI CITY – A fisherman from Bicol was recently granted with assistive device after receiving his physical therapy sessions, as well as livelihood starter kit under the Katulong at Gabay sa Manggagawang May Kapansanan (KaGabay) Program of the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC).
Eleuterio Barbin, 63, is a fisherman from Camarines Sur who suffered from a spinal condition due to fall and slip incident while at work.
Barbin a person with work related disability (PWRD), was awarded by the ECC with an assistive device, a lumbosacral corset to fully ensure his recovery after completing his therapy and to manage his dried fish buy and sell starter kit business.
Under the KaGabay Program, free therapy sessions for physical restoration are given to workers who were physically handicapped due to work-related sickness or injuries. In the case of Barbin, his livelihood starter kit was awarded first before he underwent consultations and sessions for physical therapy.
“Mayroong Employees’ Compensation Program na handang tumulong sa ating mga manggagawa kung sila’y magkasakit o maaksidente sa trabaho, ngunit lagi pa rin nating ipinapaalala na bigyang prioridad ang kalusugan at kaligtasan ng bawat isa,” said ECC Executive Director Kaima Via Velasquez.
KaGabay Program is a psycho-social support that provides livelihood, cash assistance, and even assistive devices to PWRDs to assist their physical and economic recovery for the possibility of returning to work or establish a business.
