The Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) Regional Extension Unit (REU) 8 has partnered with the officers of the National Nutrition Council Employees’ Association to expand awareness of its members on the Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP).

In a webinar conducted on June 29, 2021, ECC Information Officer Michelle C. Basal of ECC REU 8 discussed the salient provisions of the EC Program and the benefits that may be availed in the event of work-connected sickness, injury or death.

During the said webinar, Basal also highlighted the different Board Resolutions issued by the ECC in relation to the agency’s response to COVID-19. Noteworthy of these resolutions is the inclusion of COVID-19 in the ECC List of Occupational and Work-Related Diseases thereby determining the compensability of COVID-19 contracted through work or the working environment.

Basal discussed B.R. No. 21-03-08 or the Granting of Compensation under P.D. No. 626, as amended, to all Covered Members and/or their Qualified Beneficiaries in the Event of Disability or Death Due to Inoculation under Republic Act No. 11525 (“COVID19 Vaccination Program Act of 2021”).

We are happy that the ECC was very responsive in our request for the conduct of information drive with the members of the National Nutrition Council Employees’ Association (NNCEA),” NNCEA Vice President Dr. Niño Archie S. Labordo shared during his closing speech. “As officers of the Union, we see to it that our members are also updated with new issuances especially pertaining to their welfare benefits.”

The ECC has always been steadfast in its mandate. As the policy-making body for the EC Program, we see to it that we are able to formulate policies and issuances that immediately respond to the needs of the Philippine workforce especially during this pandemic,” Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis said.

Our regional officers continue to conduct advocacy seminars either onsite or through webinars to boost EC Program awareness regarding the program and to update workers of the recent policies issued by ECC,” Director Banawis added.
