Government workers can anticipate a higher funeral benefit under Employes’ Compensation Program (ECP) after the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) recently passed a resolution approving an increase in such benefits from P20,000 to P30,000.

“This move is part of ECC’s commitment of continually enhancing and equalizing EC benefits to make it sufficient and relevant, taking into consideration changes in consumer prices and income,” Employees’ Compensation Commission Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis said.

The said resolution is already at the Office of the President for his approval.

The funeral benefit under the ECP was increased to P20,000 in 2014 for both the public and private sectors after successfully equalizing them at P10,000 in 2013.

In June 2016, the ECC also approved the increase in the EC funeral benefits for the private sector workers and submitted the same for the approval of the Office of the President.

The said increase will not require any increase in the EC contributions, which is paid by the employers for their employees.
