Public school teachers and non-teaching personnel in the Department of Education-Gensan are now aware of the benefits and services of the Employees Compensation Program (ECP) after the successful conduct of ECP seminar by the Employees Compensation Commission-Regional Extension Unit 12 (ECC-REU12) Gen. Santos City last September 2016.

The seminar, which brought essential information on the coverage of government employees under the ECP, was well attended by school heads and representatives from 24 public elementary and secondary schools in Gensan. During the seminar, participants were informed of the ECP benefits should a worker suffer from work-related sickness, injury, disability, or death.

Furthermore, they were also informed of the rehabilitation services under the ECP. It was emphasized that persons with work-related disabilities (PWRD) can also avail of free physical and occupational therapy, should there be a need for them to undergo such. Resource persons from ECC-REU 12 also highlighted the presence of two ECC partner hospitals in Gen. Santos City which provides occupational and physical therapy for PWRDs—the St. Elizabeth Hospital and Gensan Doctors Hospital.

“Kahit pala yung mga naaaksidente pauwi ng bahay ay covered ng ECC,” stated by a surprised Teacher Grace from Dadiangas Heights Elementary School after the discussion on the compensability of injuries under the ECP.

However, the importance of keeping a healthy and safe workplace is strongly emphasized during the discussion. On the other hand, ECC-REU 12 staff assured the participants that they are always ready to assist victims of work-related contingencies.
