On the afternoon of January 23, 2025, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) hosted a recognition ceremony at Citadines Roces in Quezon City to honor the newly sworn-in lawyers within the Department. The event was attended by the Secretary of Labor and Employment, senior officials, heads of bureaus and attached agencies, regional directors, and the newly inducted lawyers. It celebrated the achievements of 20 DOLE employees who successfully passed the 2024 Bar Examination, showcasing their dedication and hard work.
One of the recognized lawyers was Atty. Stephene Barredo, Information Officer II of REU 6 at the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC). Atty. Barredo’s achievement is a prime example of how ECC’s commitment to supporting its employees leads to success. Despite the demands of his position at ECC, Atty. Barredo balanced his professional duties with attending law school for four years, all while excelling in his work. This accomplishment was made possible through the support of ECC’s development programs, particularly the DOLE Educational Support Program (DESP), which provided financial aid, a six-month study leave, and other resources designed to ease the challenges faced by working students.
During the ceremony, Atty. Stephene Barredo was given a chance to deliver a speech of gratitude on behalf of the newly inducted lawyers. He expressed heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering support he received throughout his journey. His speech emphasized the strong support system that DOLE and ECC provide its employees.
Atty. Kaima Via Velasquez, Executive Director of ECC, highlighted ECC’s Quality Policy, saying, “ECC recognizes the value of empowering its staff to achieve success in both individual performance and teamwork. In line with this policy, we uphold high standards in delivering services to workers affected by work-related injuries, diseases, or death. This commitment extends beyond the service we provide to workers; it also applies to our employees, ensuring they are equipped with the support and resources necessary to succeed both professionally and personally.”
The Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC), an attached agency of DOLE, remains deeply committed to the professional growth of its employees. Through initiatives like the DESP, ECC continues to provide its workforce with the tools they need to thrive.
