The Employees’ Compensation Commission recently approved the granting of a three months advance pension to EC pensioners in the private sector whose areas were declared under the state of calamity by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Natural calamities are inevitable in the Philippines due to its geographical and physical features. Every year,many people suffer from the effects of numerous calamities.
The Employees’ Compensation Commission wants to alleviate the conditions of EC pensioners in times of calamities by giving them in advance their threemonths pension.
ECC Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis explained that the morale of the calamity victims is low during disasters. They become vulnerable and financially burdened.
“Through our advance issuance of pension, the pensioners can be relieved from financial worries,†Banawisadded.
The Employees’ Compensation Commission is a government agency mandated by law to provide meaningful and appropriate compensation to workers in the event of work-related contingencies.
The ECC provides pensions for permanent partial disability, permanent total disability and death benefits.
