The Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) marked Women’s Month with a dynamic and engaging office talk titled “Sine at Kwentuhan ng Makabagong Kalalakihan” on March 26, 2025. This event sought to shed light on modern men’s evolving roles and identities while advocating for gender equality and empowerment.

In the opening salvo, ECC Executive Director Atty. Kaima Via B. Velasquez highlighted the significance of exploring contemporary masculinity and its role in advancing gender balance. She stated, “This Women’s Month, the ECC celebrates the strength and contributions of women, reaffirming our commitment to empowerment and quality in the workplace.

To establish a vibe, the event featured a screening of the film Kwentong Barbero starring Eugene Domingo, stressing the seemingly never-ending struggles of women during the state of war.

Building upon the movie screening, Kiana D. C. San Juan, MA, RPm, RPsy, LPT – a psychologist and instructor at the University of Santo Tomas – led a presentation on the shifting definition of manhood. She initiated activities encouraging participants to challenge cultural stereotypes and embrace a more inclusive view of masculinity.

The “Kwentuhan ng Makabagong Kalalakihan” segment offered an opportunity for attendees to share personal experiences and discuss the dismantling of societal barriers. This segment focused on fostering empathy, respect, and inclusivity for all genders, promoting a more fair-minded society.

The event concluded with the presentation of a certificate of appreciation to Ms. San Juan for her insightful presentation. ECC also honored winners of various activities held throughout the month, all designed to encourage creative thinking about gender roles and provide a platform for employees to express their ideas.

In closing, ECC’s GAD Focal Person, Atty. E. Patrice Jamaine T. Barron delivered remarks emphasizing the ongoing need for dialogue and education to foster inclusive and empowering environments for everyone. “As we wrap up this program, let’s continue to carry the spirit of equality and support, ensuring that the contributions of women are recognized not only this month but every day,” she remarked.

ECC’s Women’s Month celebration was a success, promoting gender inclusivity and challenging traditional norms in support of a more progressive and equitable community.
