The Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC), through its Regional Extension Unit (REU) 4A, had released almost ₱5 million EC cash assistance to 492 workers in the Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon (CALABARZON) and Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan (MIMAROPA) Regions from January to May 2022. Ninety-eight percent (98%) or 484 of the cash assistance were due to work-related Covid19.

The beneficiaries received ₱10,000.00 EC cash assistance on top of their EC sickness benefits. Some of them received EC medical benefits in the form of reimbursement for their out-of-pocket medical expenses as well. Both EC sickness and EC medical benefits are released through ECC’s administering agencies: the Social Security System (SSS) for the private sector employees and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) for the public sector employees.

The ₱10,000 EC cash assistance is an additional benefit being awarded to workers who suffered work-related sickness or injuries from January 2018 onwards and who already have their EC sickness/disability benefits approved at SSS/GSIS. In the event of work-related death, qualified beneficiaries of the workers could receive ₱15,000 EC cash assistance on top of their EC death with funeral benefits.

EC cash assistance applications for Covid19 cases has been temporary suspended and will resume once the budget for it is available.
