The Employees’ Compensation Commission steps up first aid awareness thru a lecture-demonstration by the Philippine Red Cross on August 10, 2018 at the ECC Building, Makati City.
Philippine Red Cross volunteer Kamal Gunawardana imparted awareness focusing on the First Aid Goals in preserving life, preventing further harm and complications, seeking immediate medical help and providing patient reassurance as part of the emergency action principles. Demonstrations were also shown on how to provide basic life support in various situations like choking, stroke, burns, fever, wounds and sprains, among others, particularly alertness on the Airway-Breathing-Circulation (ABC Principle) and giving Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as necessary.
“Do something instead of doing nothing,” emphasized Gunawardana.
“We do not need to be of high ranking positions to be an expert, that is why it is called ‘First Aid.’ It is enough that we are educated and alert in various situations that may come because Philippines is surrounded with challenges. By challenges I mean Philippines being in the Pacific Ring experiencing typhoons, landslides, earthquakes and the like,” he added.
The Employees’ Compensation Commission is an agency of the government providing benefits for public and private sector employees and their dependents in the event of a work-related disability, injury, sickness or death. As such, the ECC’s mission is not limited only to be a nationally-acclaimed institution committed to protect the working population but also one that is abreast and cognizant with the disaster prevention programs and activities thus engaging the First Aid Lectures of the Philippine Red Cross.
