To increase awareness within the hotel and restaurant industry, the Employees’ Compensation Commission collaboated with the Ormoc Hotel and Restaurant Association for the conduct of an Employees’ Compensation Program advocacy seminar ay Bayview Inn, Ormoc City in Semptember 2017.

Attended by a total of 72 participants coming from 26 hotels and restaurants in Ormoc City, the seminar dicussed benefits and services under the Employees’Compensation Program.

The seminar emphasized the need for the employer to maintain an EC Logbook inside the company premises and to submit the same the Social Security System of the Government Sevices Insurance System when a work-related contingency occurs.

The EC Logbook contains the chronological recording of the sickness, injury or death of their employees including the name of the affected employee/s, dates, place, nature, of the contingency and the number of days that the employee was unable to work.

Entries in the Logbook should be made within five (5) days form notice or knowledge of the contingency. Within five (5) days from such entry in the logbook, the employer sahll report to either SSS or GSIS those contingencies which are deemed to be work-related.

The mere absence of the logbook, however, shall not result in the suspension of the evaluation of the claim. On the other hand, the employer may be held liable for the fifty (50%) of the lump sum of the EC benefits of the worker if he fails to record and submit the EC logbook within the prescribed period.
