The Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) Regional Extension Unit 10 in partnership with the SSS Quezon City and SSS Iligan branch recently conducted an in-depth seminar on the social security benefits of employees in the private sector at the Plaza Alemania Hotel in Iligan City.
The three-day free seminar was participated by 92 employees and employers from 84 companies in Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur.
The seminar aimed to tackle the various social benefits employees may avail under the programs of the SSS and the importance of knowing the Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP) .
ECC Northern Mindanao Regional Officer Stella Obice explained the salient features of the ECP and the other services workers may get in the event of a work-connected contingency.
Obice also discussed Executive Order No. 54 which was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in May 2018, increasing the Temporary Total Disability (TTD), Permanent Partial Disability (PPD), Permanent Total Disability (PTD) benefits, carer’s allowance and reimbursement rates for professional fees of physicians and physical therapy sessions of persons with work-related disabilities (PWRDs).
According to SSS Iligan Medical Officer Roy Doctolero, SSS is now in the process of enhancing their computer systems for the implementation of the new increases.
“It is very important that both employees and employers are aware of the existence of the Employees’ Compensation Program. Seminars like this are of great help in making sure that you are all aware of the benefits and services of the ECP,” said Dr. Doctolero.
Dr. Doctolero also emphasized the importance of the EC logbook when claiming for EC benefits. He reminded all participants that failure to maintain an EC logbook may result to penalties under the PD 626.
The participants are thankful to the SSS and the ECC in organizing the free seminar in Northern Mindanao.
