Through the Employees’ Compensation Commission Quick Response Program (ECC-QRP), five workers from the modern cold storage and dry warehouse facility in Cagayan Oro City were awarded EC cash assistance worth ₱10,000.00 each by the ECC Northern Mindanao office.

Four of the workers are forklift operators and one is an engineering supervisor. The accidents happened in 2019 and in 2020 when the three of them encountered road accidents while the other two had industrial accidents or accidents that occurred within the company premises.

After attending an EC Program webinar, their company’s human resource officer invited ECC to conduct a seminar at their workplace. In March 2021, ECC Northern Mindanao conducted a face-to-face orientation on EC Program with a limited number of 25 employees in order to maintain social distancing.

News about the program had spread to other employees who were not able to attend. With the support of the Human Resource personnel of the company, the five workers applied for EC cash assistance and received their ₱10,000.00 checks months later.

Nelson Balopiños, one of the workers said “Malaking tulong po ang EC Program sa bawat manggagawa na katulad ko na naaksidente nang dahil sa trabaho. Meron din palang benepisyo sa ECC. Mabuti nalang at nalaman namin. Ang mga benepisyo na natanggap ko ay magagamit ko sa pang araw-araw na gastusin lalo na minsan kapos pa sa sahod. Salamat ECC!”

The cash assistance is an additional benefit under the ECC-QRP for workers and/or their qualified dependents in the event of work-connected disability or death.
