In commemoration of the 48th Anniversary of the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC), its Regional Extension Unit in General Santos City granted prostheses to two persons with work-related disabilities (PWRDs) on March 17, 2023.
Nyka Shane Sara and Rey Billones became physically disabled due to work-connected accidents inside their companies.
Sara was working as a factory worker when her right arm was caught in a cutting press machine causing her right arm to be amputated while Billones was a printing machine operator when his left hand accidentally got caught in the machine resulting to the amputation of his four fingers.
Through the ECC’s Katulong at Gabay sa Manggagawang may Kapansanan (KaGabay) Program, Sara received an above elbow prosthesis amounting to ₱110,000.00 and Billones received a cosmetic hand glove amounting to ₱80,000.
Meanwhile, ECC conducted a prosthesis measuring, skin matching, and casting to Agapito Ayop whose right arm was also amputated due to workplace accident. He will also receive an above elbow prosthesis.
“When my company introduced me to ECC, I was so amazed to their heartfelt services from my rehabilitation, cash assistance, and now my new prosthetic hand. These brought me back to life, giving me a new courage to continue our daily lives,” said Billones.
Workers who became physically disabled due to work-related accidents may avail of rehabilitation services of ECC when their EC disability claim is filed and approved by the Social Security System (SSS) or Government System Insurance System (GSIS).
ECC celebrated its anniversary with the theme “48 na Taon na Naglilingkod at Umaagapay sa Manggagawang Filipino” and stays true to its commitment in delivering excellent services promptly and fairly to all Filipino workers.
