The Employees’ Compensation Commission deployed its Quick Response Program Team (QRPT) to the Philippine General Hospital on June 25, 2013, to visit Percy Gozarin, a 23 years old victim of a gondola mishap which occurred at the construction site of SM Aura in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig. Mr. Gozarin was confined for severe head injuries.

The visit provided assistance to the victim of the work related contingency by informing about compensation and benefits under the Employees’ Compensation Program. Help was also extended in the facilitation on the filing of EC claims and provision of psychological counseling and a bag of groceries to the family members.

The gondola mishap happened on June 18, 2013, when the gondola fell due to the break on the stretched-out adjustable buckle hook. Mr. Gozarin, at the time of the incident, was on top of the gondola with no harness and appropriate personal protective equipment. Among the several workers using the gondola, it was him who suffered the worst injury.

It was later found out that the victim has no SSS coverage and the company had not been observing the proper safety measures relative to its working premises and employees. Such information was endorsed to the proper DOLE offices and to SSS for inspection and/or appropriate action.
